Michael MiyamotoSabers/Saberettes Youth Basketball Organization mourns the loss of 1994 Wizards player Michael Miyamoto who lost his eleven year battle to leukemia on November 1 at the young age of 18. Since being diagnosed with leukemia at age seven, Michael has gone through a long exhausting ordeal of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Last year, through the vigilant support of the community, Michael was a recipient of a bone marrow transplant. Nearly one year later, the transplant was unfortunately deemed unsuccessful resulting in several treatments to slow the spread of the leukemia.

Michael played with the organization since the first grade. A recent graduate from Walnut High School, Michael was the recipient of the 2012 Sabers Scholarship.

Michael has been an inspiration to so many of us in the community. The entire organization is rallying together to send our love and thoughts to the Miyamoto family. As we mourn the loss of our community hero, the Sabers Board is developing a plan to honor Michael's legacy and memorialize the significant impact he and his family have had on the organization. We are committed to insuring that he is not forgotten and will forever remain in our hearts.
